KUALA LUMPUR: The enactment of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act will empower authorities to protect women in workplaces, at homes, and in public spaces, says Datuk Heng Seai Kie.
The Wanita MCA chief said she was proud that the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry on Dec 15 successfully tabled the Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill for the first reading that had received unanimous support.
Alongside this proposed act, Heng said the Wanita MCA Legal Advisory and Women's Aid (LAWA) would partner with the Royal Malaysia Police and 179 divisions across the nation to set up enquiry centres to help victims of harassment.
"In order to raise public awareness about the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act, we will also collaborate with the Ministry and other non-governmental organisations to educate the public through a series of broadcast and lectures in Bahasa Malaysia, English, and Tamil," she said during her speech at the 46th Wanita MCA Annual General Meeting on Saturday (Dec 18).
Heng also launched the "Say No to Sexual Harassment" campaign, together with the party secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon and other party representatives.
