GOMBAK: Four law enforcement agency personnel are among six individuals arrested by police for alleged links to a syndicate involved in stealing alcoholic beverages.

       The enforcement personnel were believed to have helped the robbery syndicate by providing it with information on where alcohol seized by police was being stored.

       Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said the arrests also led to the seizure of 2kg of captagon pills, 47 erimin 5 pills and 4.9g of cocaine worth RM559,899.

       "We also seized mobile phones, electronic weighing scales and cash amounting to RM111,100 from the enforcement personnel's vehicle which was seized.

       "Investigations revealed that three men entered the storage facility at Dengkil in a lorry at around 2.30am last Thursday (Nov 25).

       "They tied up the security guard before loading the beverages onto the lorry," he told reporters after launching the Gombak police headquarters on Monday (Nov 29).

       He added that the suspects were believed to have fled the scene at around 5am.

       "Investigations led to the arrest of two suspects, a lorry driver and his co-driver, at Shah Alam while another suspect fled.

       "Checks on the lorry led to the seizure of 234 alcoholic beverages believed to have been stolen from the storage facility.

       "We then arrested the four enforcement personnel following a police report from the security guard claiming that an insider was involved," he said, adding that the suspects have been remanded to assist further investigations.

       Mazlan added that police were now on the hunt for another suspect, believed to be the mastermind of the syndicate.
