KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed that a law enforcement agency officer has been arrested in connection with a crime involving losses of at least RM700,000.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya confirmed that Dang Wangi CID had arrested the officer to help with further investigations.
"As of now, we have arrested two individuals, including the officer.
"We have called in 12 other individuals to have their statements recorded," he said when contacted on Monday (Dec 13).
He said the officer has been remanded for four days while the other suspect has been remanded for three days.
It was reported on Sunday that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed that an officer from the commission has been detained by the police to assist in investigations into a gang robbery case last Friday (Dec 10) in Kuala Lumpur.
In a statement, MACC said it had given full cooperation to the police to track down the officer and handed him over to the police on Saturday (Dec 11) afternoon.
MACC stressed that it would not compromise or protect any officer involved in any criminal conduct.
"Strict action including charges in court and disciplinary action with dismissal will be imposed if he was involved," said the statement.
On Saturday, a news portal reported that two individuals, including an officer of an enforcement agency, were arrested by the police after they were suspected of being involved in a gang robbery at a house in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, which involved a loss of almost RM1mil.
