KUALA LUMPUR: An engagement session between Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara parliament members was held on Tuesday (Feb 8) and Wednesday (Feb 9) on anti-party hopping provisions and limiting the Prime Minister's term, says Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
"The session was aimed at obtaining the views of the people's representatives and Senators on the proposed provisions," said Wan Junaidi, who is Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law).
"The proposed provisions were discussed by the Technical Transformation and Political Stability Committee on Jan 25," he said in a statement Wednesday.
He also explained that the policy proposed by the committee has been presented to MPs for their feedback and views.
"Continuous engagement sessions will be made by me with the Legal Affairs Division and the Attorney General's Chambers with all component parties and party leaders to obtain relevant policy and legislative agreements proposed.
"The proposal will also be presented to the Political Transformation and Stability Steering Committee meeting co-chaired by government and Opposition representatives, after being refined and finalised with all stakeholders," he said.
He said he was also confident that this session and future sessions could provide adequate explanations and information to members of the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara on the proposed provisions.
"At the same time, apart from strengthening the dual-partisan initiative, it will also ensure that the proposed provisions will be supported and agreed in Parliament later," he said.
