IPOH: With the opening of more vaccination centres, Perak is expected to attain herd immunity by October, says Datuk Saarani Mohamad (pic).

The Perak Mentri Besar said to enhance the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme, the state government was assessing a proposal to set-up 12 new vaccination centres, and to upgrade the existing three centres.

Saarani said depending on the supply of vaccines, the whole vaccination process in the state is expected to be completed by November this year.

“For rural areas, the vaccination has been carried out via community outreach teams comprising Health Ministry staff using mobile centres.

“For dense areas, the current public vaccination centres have been upgraded for higher daily capacity, besides creating drive-through, and mobile community outreach centres,” he said in reply to a written question from Yahaya Mat Nor (Amanah-Pasir Panjang) at the Perak state assembly sitting Thursday (Aug 26).

Yahaya wanted to know about the state government’s strategy to speed up the vaccination process in dense and rural areas.

Saarani said that as of Aug 24, a total of 1,118,358 people have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, while a total of 797,317 people have received their second dose.

He said currently there were a total of 226 vaccination centres in the state, with a daily inoculation capacity of between 40,000 and 45,000 doses.
