Cops detain 63 people in two raids at entertainment outlets in JB

       JOHOR BARU: Police detained 63 individuals during an operation at two entertainment outlets between 12.45am and 3am on Monday (Sept 4) near here.

       Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said 210 people were inspected and initial urine tests found 22 women and 36 men were tested positive for ketamine and methamphetamine.

       "All suspects detained aged between 19 and 56," he said in a statement adding both entertainment outlets had valid business licences and operated within the stipulated business hours.

       Comm Kamarul Zaman said police also apprehended four foreigners for not possessing valid travel documents and they had been handed over to the Johor Baru South police district headquarters for further investigation.

       "We also detained an individual who is on the police wanted list while a civil servant who was on work-hold order was handed over to the respective department for action," he said.

       Comm Kamarul Zaman said the case was being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Wanted Section of 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

       "We urge those with information of drug distribution activities in their areas to contact our Criminal Investigation Department hotline at 012-208 7222," he said.

       Comm Kamarul Zaman said all suspects had been remanded from Sept 4 until Sept 5, to assist with investigation.
