       Bid to protect Kuwaiti society

       KUWAIT CITY, March 23: MP Badr Al- Hamidi has submitted a proposal to amend the Foreigners Residency Law, which was referred to the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee on Monday, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Al-Hamidi took this step about a year after he proposed cancellation of the residency permits of expatriates with chronic mental or neurological diseases, which usually take several years to be treated. This proposal is still in the hands of the concerned parliamentary committees.

       According to the recent proposal of the lawmaker, any foreigner who applies for a visa to work in the country, engage in a commercial activity or join a family must attach to his application an approved medical certificate showing that he is free from chronic, psychological or infectious diseases.

       He should also attach a certificate stating his genetic makeup or DNA and results of tests aimed at determining mental illnesses. If proven that he has any of these diseases, the recruiter must take procedures for the foreigner to return to his country at his own expense.

       Al-Humaidi explained that the goal of his proposal is to protect the Kuwaiti society by ensuring none of its citizens will contract the aforementioned diseases. He stressed the importance of maintaining the health status, social values, customs and traditions of Kuwait.
