GEORGE TOWN: While Penang seems to have been spared floods so far in these stormy months, the same cannot be said of its beaches.

       The baywatch tower at Batu Ferringhi beach has been continuously bashed by fierce waves to the point that its foundation is being eroded.

       A beach-goer alerted The Star to the erosion on Wednesday (Dec 22).

       While someone has placed warning tapes around the hazard to warn beach-goers, the season has brought many holidaymakers to Batu Ferringhi.

       Built in 2004, this baywatch tower helps the Civil Defence Force keep watch over people engaging in watersports activities.

       During the 2004 tsunami, it helped rescuers locate victims to save after the devastating waves.

       The year-end north-east monsoon typically brings strong winds and crashing waves to Penang's beaches until Chinese New Year.
