GEORGE TOWN: Police have recorded the statements from five people over a video clip showing two traffic police outriders escorting a car driven by a son of a VIP at Jalan Bukit Gambir recently.

       The 20-second video was uploaded on Facebook by a user named anwarazeez on May 7.

       It showed a man at the wheel of a private vehicle being escorted by two traffic policemen on a motorcycle belonging to the police.

       In the video, one of the policemen appeared to stop an oncoming car intending to make a turn, allowing the vehicle to run the red light.

       It showed a car having the right of way abruptly braking, causing the vehicle behind it to also brake suddenly to avoid a collision.

       Penang state Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Asmadi Yusoff said the investigation into the case was completed last month.

       "We have recorded the statements of five witnesses of the incident.

       “The investigation paper has since been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor's office and police are currently awaiting further instruction," he said when contacted on Friday (June 10).

       The two traffic policemen had also been reassigned to administrative duties.
