Horrified pals claim Robert had left the marital home before the horror on Friday after learning his wife was in a relationship with his friend.
Rose had grown increasingly close to the man and had gone on holiday with him to Tenerife a few weeks ago, Mail Online reports.
A friend said: "[The pal] and Rose knew each other from the shooting range. They've known each other for years. [He] would go with his then-wife.
'When Rose and Robert's marriage fell apart, she and [the friend] became closer. They went on holiday together to Tenerife a few weeks ago.

"It was early days, they'd not been together very long and I'm not sure how official it all was, but Robert was very jealous and took it very badly.
"He said to me 'I've been stabbed in the back by [the friend'.
"Marriages crumble and people move on. [The friend] and Rose seemed happy together. There's no excuse for what Robert did."
Robert and Rose ran White Lodge Shooting School, near the medieval ruins of Thornton Abbey, in North Lincolnshire.
