Gary Ternent, 59, had pinned him to the ground before hopping into the car to help run his so-called friend over a third and fourth time.
They then sped off leaving stricken John in a pool of blood at the Iceland car park in Dagenham, East London.
His family wept in court today as the father and son were found guilty of murder.
The Old Bailey heard how Bobby Ternent had accused John of handing back £40,000 he was tasked with looking after "short".
The "very successful businessman" had run a sash windows carpentry company and lived in a million-pound house.
But he was forced to sell the home and his marriage collapsed after the business went downhill and he turned to drugs.

On September 13, 2020, he texted his ex-wife: "I'm going to get your house back."
Shortly after, the evil dad and son picked John up in the "sporty" BMW and drove him to the car park.
John was then held down by Gary Ternent as his son mowed him down in front of horrified witnesses.
Prosecutor Bill Emlyn Jones QC said: "With Bobby Ternent at the wheel, and Gary Ternent holding John Avers down on the ground in front of the car, John Avers was run over once, then Bobby Ternent spun the car around and ran over him again.
"Gary Ternent then ran to join his son in the car before they then ran their victim over a third time - and a fourth time.
"Only then, no doubt satisfied that they had done enough damage, they drove away, leaving John Avers dying, or more likely already dead from the catastrophic injuries they caused him."
'BARBARIC'
A post mortem found John had suffered multiple injuries, including fractures to the skull, sternum, pelvis, left thigh and 22 ribs.
Meanwhile, Bobby Ternent changed his clothes and burnt the BMW.
He was later captured on CCTV saying John "might be crippled", to which his father replied: "Right, we gone over him three times."
Police arrested the younger Ternent on the M2 in a car driven by his girlfriend days after the brutal killing.
His dad was arrested at a guest house in Southend-on-Sea with his wife.
Det Ch Insp Rogers from the Met Police said: "This was nothing short of a cold and calculated execution.
"What Bobby and Gary did to their supposed good friend was absolutely shocking and was extremely distressing for those who witnessed it and those who have had to watch the graphic CCTV.
"John was already lying defenceless on the floor, there is absolutely no excuse that can justify holding him down and then running him over not once, not twice, but four times. It is barbaric."
The pair were remanded in custody to be sentenced on February 10.
