KUALA LUMPUR: A 45-year-old singer who was detained for allegedly assaulting his ex-wife in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya is expected to be charged in court on Friday (April 22).
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the singer had been remanded for two days.
"He has been remanded until Friday. We expect him to be charged on Friday as well," he said when contacted on Thursday (April 21).
On Wednesday (April 20), the singer was arrested for alleged domestic abuse.
The alleged incident occurred at 2.29pm on Tuesday (April 19).
ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin had said a 27-year-old woman was in the parking lot of the residence of her ex-husband at Kota Damansara to pick up their son when the incident occurred.
"Investigations revealed the incident was sparked by an argument when the woman refused to be photographed with her ex-husband," he said.
He said the suspect got angry and beat up the victim, causing bruises and swelling on her body.
"We arrested the suspect at his home on Wednesday to assist in further investigations.
"A urine test came back negative (for drugs) on the suspect," he said.
ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said the suspect was a popular singer.
"We have opened investigations for domestic violence and voluntarily causing hurt," he added.
