JOHOR BARU: The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has handled 10 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), the highest ever in its history.

       Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong congratulated the port, located in Gelang Patah here, for its sterling performance of achieving the record at 7am on Tuesday (Nov 23).

       “The port exceeded the nine million TEUs targeted in Aspiration Two under the ministry’s 100-day Keluarga Malaysia Aspiration.

       “The initiative was implemented to ensure that the container handling performance at the country’s main ports is at optimum level.

       “This is to increase the country’s gross domestic product through the marine transportation sector,” Dr Wee, who is also MCA president, said in a statement on his Facebook page.

       Last year, the port handled 9.85 million TEUs and it had exceeded 10 million TEUs so far this year well before Dec 31, he said.

       “This is PTP’s best achievement since its establishment.

       “The port also recorded growth in its business and showed good performance in its management through its strategic planning when facing the challenges and impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

       “The determination and teamwork of all parties involved, including the Johor Port Authority and Transport Ministry’s maritime division, is now bearing fruit,” he said, urging those involved to keep up the good work.
