PETALING JAYA: The tabling of the Political Funding Bill to fight corruption should be expedited, says Pakatan Harapan presidential council.
The council said it was concerned about the increasing news of alleged corruption and that reforms must be implemented immediately.
"We reiterate our commitment to fight corruption. Reforms and firm action need to be taken by the government immediately including tabling the Bill and placing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) under the jurisdiction of the Parliament," it said in a statement on Tuesday (June 14).
The statement was signed by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, Upko president Datuk Seri Madius Tangau and Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu.
“These cases of corruption do not only involve high-profile political figures but also key figures of the civil service," it said.
Last month, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the government had agreed in principle to the drafting of the Bill.
The Prime Minister said the matter has to be brought to the Cabinet for discussion before an engagement session with political parties.
