MELAKA: The need to vaccinate lawyers will be dealt with urgency, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali (pic).

He said it was important for the legal fraternity to get vaccinated against Covid-19, as well as other professions that were dealing with the public and students.

“We will look into the request made by the Melaka Bar and also those in various other sectors," he said in an interview on Thursday (June 24).

Sulaiman said the vaccination programme must be extended widely so that herd immunity could be reached soonest.

"It's good for the body representing lawyers to raise the importance for their members to get vaccinated," he said.

On Tuesday (June 22), Melaka Bar chairman Nitin Kumar Gordhan expressed his hope to see more than 800 lawyers in the state to be prioritised for Covid-19 vaccination so that court proceedings could fully resume.

He said the vaccination was especially urgent when it comes to defending those who were unable to afford legal fees through the Legal Aid Bureau.

Nitin Kumar said lawyers in Perak, Negri Sembilan, Selangor and Kelantan have already registered for their jabs.
