AN elderly woman’s bathroom and toilet were saved from demolition by the Seremban Land Office after two local leaders intervened, Malaysia Nanban reported.

       K. Sunthari, 61, who lives with her children and eight grandchildren in a dilapidated house built over 50 years ago on unused government land at Kampung Pasir in Rasah, Negri Sembilan, had built the extension in order to have a proper toilet and bathroom.

It is said that it was against regulation and a notice was issued on Feb 10, giving her three days to demolish the structure.

Following this, officials from the land office turned up on Sunday to demolish it.

However, two elected representatives managed to intervene and urged the council to postpone the demolition.

Sunthari appealed to the representatives to help her build a proper bathroom and toilet.

       > Malaysian-Indian parents in Perak are demanding to know when students would receive the aid that was supposed to have been generated from plantation land allocated to the community, the daily also reported.

Some 809ha of land was given by the state government to the community in 2008.

A special board was appointed to manage the land and proceeds were supposed to have gone towards an education fund.

A huge part was reportedly replanted with the help of the National Land Finance Co-Op Society (NLFCS) at a cost of RM18mil.

The board reportedly promised half of the proceeds as repayment to NLFCS, and half for the fund.
