KUALA LUMPUR: Four policemen were arrested for allegedly extorting RM10,000 from a man.
City police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said a report had been lodged on Jan 4, in which the complainant claimed he had been extorted by four cops near an apartment in Kepong.
“Based on our investigation, we arrested four policemen aged between 29 and 41, whom we believe are involved in the case,” he said in a statement yesterday.
It was reported that a man had complained of being extorted by several policemen, who also accused him of being involved in illegal gambling activities, on Dec 23 last year.
The man said he attempted lodging a police report twice, but his reports were not accepted until the third attempt on Jan 4.
On this, Comm Allaudeen said the Kuala Lumpur Integrity and Standards Compliance Department has opened an investigation on the refusal to receive the police report.
“We view this seriously and will take strict action. The issue is still being investigated and the police will not protect any person, including our own officers, who have committed any offences.”
