SUNGAI PETANI: Firemen found the charred remains of an 11-year-old girl after putting out a fire that gutted a synthetic rubber factory near here.
A distress call was received at 4.11am on Friday (March 4) and when the fire engines arrived, the blaze had already spread, said Kedah Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon in a statement.
She said firemen soon received word that the girl, who stayed in the living quarters of the factory, was missing but the flames were so hot that it was only at about 7.30am that firemen could enter the burnt factory in Bakar Arang Industrial Area to find her charred remains.
She was an Indonesian named Misah Kasih and was the god-granddaughter of the manager's family, who also lived on the factory grounds.
Firemen found her body in the second-floor office, indicating that she might have tried to hide from the fire when it broke out.
Her body was sent for a post-mortem.
