JOHOR BAHRU: Single mother Nurliza Rahmat, 33, heaved a sigh of relief when she went to receive the offer letter for a house under the People's Housing Project (PPR).

She finally succeeded in getting the house after applying for it the fourth time.

The woman, who was unemployed, had a nine year-old son and also took care of her 64-year-old father who was now bedridden following a stroke.

"It is my younger brother, who is a person with disabilities (PwD), that is supporting us. He works as a cook at a fast food outlet," she told reporters on Saturday (Dec 11) and expressed her gratitude to the state government for the PPR offer.

Her family was among 98 families in Kampung Sungai Pinang, Perling here, who were given the PPR offer letter.

The letters were handed over to them by Perling State Constituency Coordinating Committee chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

Meanwhile, Nur Jazlan said the relocation of the 98 families to the PPR area would not only solve the problems of squatters in the area, but also helped the families to live in a more comfortable home.

He said the recipients of the PPR houses were currently occupying land owned by Tanjung Bidara Ventures Sdn Bhd.

As most of the residents had problems coming up with the deposit for the PPR house, the company had agreed to give RM3,000 to each family to cover the deposit and utility payments, and the cost of moving to their now home, he added.

Nur Jazlan said the state government had also agreed to pay the rent of RM250 a month for a year for the affected families.

They are now waiting for the green light to move to their new PPR home, he added. - Bernama
