PUTRAJAYA: The SPM 2021 national average grade (GPN) has dipped by 0.06 points.

Education director-general Datuk Nor Zamani Abdol Hamid (pic) said the GPN for 2021 is 4.86.

This is compared to 4.80 in 2020.

Nor Zamani said a lower number means a better score when announcing the results for SPM 2021 on Thursday (June 16).

She said a comparison between the number of straight As and GPN between SPM 2021 and the previous year will not be fair as the SPM 2021 candidates are the first cohort of students who sat for the SPM exam using the new Standard-Based Curriculum for Secondary Schools (KSSM) and exam format.

“It is not easy to prepare for a major exam like SPM where face-to-face learning was very limited.

“The ministry does not want to compare because it has been challenging for the candidates to sit for the exams amid the Coid-19 pandemic.

“Our students have done their best,” she said.

The SPM 2021 written exam ran from March 2 to March 29 with a total of 407,097 candidates sitting for the exams.

Candidates can access their results online at myresultspm.moe.gov.my or via short message service (SMS), where candidates can check by typing SPMMyKad NumberRoll Number and SMS to 15888, from 10am onwards.
