KUALA LUMPUR: AmBank Group has adopted Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) Green Electricity Tariff (GET) Programme in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint in electricity consumption, in line with the group’s Sustainability Agenda.
Group chief executive officer Datuk Sulaiman Mohd Tahir said the bank has opted for the GET programme as an alternative to gain access to more renewable energy, due to the limitation posed by the rooftop design of its premises.
"We were the nation’s first financial institution to install solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on one of our buildings located at the Damansara Fairway 3.
"Moving forward, we will continue to explore and implement other energy management initiatives to further reduce carbon emissions and minimise environmental impact from our operations,” he said in a statement today.
With the GET programme, AmBank Group expects to reduce its Scope 2 carbon emissions by approximately 90 per cent.
The group has also implemented other green initiatives, such as investing in energy-efficient infrastructures, including installing light-emitting diode (LED) lighting systems in its buildings and branches nationwide, said AmBank.
Meanwhile, TNB chief retail officer Datuk Ir Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan said GET subscribers like AmBank Group are contributing to the national green agenda to increase renewable energy generation by up to 31 per cent by 2025.
Established by the Energy Commission, the GET programme is facilitated by TNBX Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of TNB.
With the Malaysian Renewable Energy Certificate (mREC) backing the GET programme, subscribers are assured that they are indirectly receiving eco-friendly energy sources like hydro and solar. - Bernama
