IPOH: Police here have shot down claims that a man was eaten by a tiger and his remains found near an Orang Asli village in Simpang Pulai.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said there was no truth to the rumour and urged people not to make images of the so-called remains and a tiger go viral.

"It is fake. It never happened.

"The Ipoh police did not receive any such report," he told a press conference here on Thursday (Feb 10).

The images were posted on Facebook by a user named "Pembalak Kelate", who claimed that a tiger had eaten the victim and the remains were found near Pos Raya.

The pictures were also being circulated on WhatsApp.

Comm Mior Faridalathrash reminded the public not to spread fake news or information that could cause distress among the people.

"I strongly urge people to refrain from using old pictures to create fake news.

"It is an offence under the Communications and Multimedia Act and we will take stern action against those responsible," he said.
