SHAH ALAM: A syndicate selling fake sick leave certificates has been busted with the arrests of four suspects.

Selangor Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) chief Asst Comm Azman Ali said two men and two women aged between 22 and 35 were detained in Shah Alam on Monday and Tuesday.

“Three of them were agents selling the fake certificates while the other was responsible for printing the certificates.

“We seized several items including 62 fake certificates, a printer, computer and five mobile phones,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Those detained had been remanded until Friday, he added.

“We believe the syndicate has been active since early 2020. They were selling each fake certificate for RM40.

“Buyers have to give their personal details, dates for the certificates and from which clinic. Payments are transferred into the agents’ accounts and the certificates are then delivered to the buyers,” he said.ACP Azman said police were still tracking the buyers of the certificates.

“We managed to bring down the syndicate after careful surveillance and gathering of intelligence,” he added.

He advised the public not to resort to buying fake sick leave certificates as cheating by producing fake documents is an offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

“We also urge organisations that have received such fake certificates to lodge police reports,” he said.
