KOTA KINABALU: Police here have arrested a man who made a false police report that he was robbed in a bid to stop his wife from divorcing him.
Kota Belud district police chief Supt Sahimi Husin said that the suspect had initially lodged a report at about 9pm on Friday (June 25), claiming that he was robbed by two men who also stole his motorcycle.
He added that discrepancies were found in his report, and said that the suspect finally admitted to making a false report.
"The suspect then took the police to the location where he hid his motorcycle and also admitted that he had to make the report because he wanted to save his marriage,” said Supt Sahimi.
He said police then conducted a urine-screening test and added that the man tested positive for syabu.
Supt Sahimi said the suspect was later detained for further investigation under Section 182 of the Penal Code and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He said the suspect faces a prison sentence and a fine for making a false report, and added that lodging false reports is an irresponsible act and police would take stern action against any individual who makes a false report.
