Royal Family LIVE: Meghan 'leaving no stone unturned’ to secure political role
2021-11-03 00:00:00.0     每日快报-皇室     原网页

Last month, the Duchess of Sussex, 40 issued a letter to US Congress leaders to advocate for paid leave for all parents, which was written on Sussex-headed paper and was signed off with Meghan's Duchess title. Within the campaign piece, Meghan Markle drew on her status as a mother-of-two and issued a call to ensure that millions of American families can access guaranteed paid leave.

However, it emerged that US President Joe Biden has not included paid family leave in his $1.75trillion (£1.27trillion) spending plan.

This hasn’t deterred Meghan though who has reportedly been in touch with American lawyer Kirsten Gillibrand who is working on getting the motion through Congress.

Igor Bobic, senior politics reporter at HuffPost tweeted on November 2: “Gillibrand says she got a call from Meghan Markle wanting to know how to get involved on paid leave."

This was further echoed by Ellie Hall, Senior Reporter for BuzzFeed News who tweeted that a spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed the conversation had taken place, before adding: “The conversation took place *after* Meghan penned an open letter to Congress in support of paid family leave."

Meghan’s dedication to the cause was praised R.S Locke, a journalist and royal commentator with the username @royal_suitor who wrote: “Leaving no stone unturned in the push to get #PaidLeaveForAll back in the bill. #MeghanMarkle”
