The 95-year-old monarch may choose to forgo the Christmas family reunion which has been a long-celebrated tradition, after a series of misfortunes including her recent health scare and the death of her husband Prince Philip. During less challenging years, the Windsors would typically spend the festive holiday at their home in their Sandringham home, which lies 100 miles north of London. The speculation comes after a health scare which saw the Queen spend a night in hospital last week.
Palace aides were reportedly told to "cut back" the Queen's "exhausting" schedule following her health scare.
It is believed the she is saving her energy to travel to Scotland to host a major reception for world leaders at the Cop26 climate change summit, but it is not yet confirmed whether she will carry out the engagement.
The Sun reported that Sunday's service was the first time she had missed prayers at Windsor's All Saints Chapel since she returned from her summer break at Balmoral.
It comes as she was forced to spend a night in hospital following admission for precautionary tests last week.
