PETALING JAYA: The number Covid-19 fatalities hit yet another grim record with 207 deaths, the highest in a day so far.

       This brings the country’s total fatalities from the pandemic to 8,201, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.

       He added that Selangor recorded the highest death toll with 57, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 52 and Johor with 24.

       Other fatalities were also recorded in Kedah (19), Melaka (18), Negri Sembilan (14), Pahang (seven), Sabah (six), Perak (five), Penang (three) and Terengganu (two).Of the deaths, 160 were linked to comorbidities while 14 others were classified as “brought in dead” cases.

       Dr Noor Hisham also said there were 14,516 new infections, bringing the total accumulated cases to 1,027,954 cases.

       “The vast majority of newly diagnosed Covid-19 cases or 92% had no history of vaccination,” he said while urging the public to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

       “Categories 1 and 2 are low risk and are allowed to isolate at home.

       “This can help reduce congestion at the Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre and hospitals, especially in the Klang Valley.

       “Only Category 3 to 5 cases will be admitted to the centre, hospital wards and intensive care units (ICU)s,” he added.

       Dr Noor Hisham also said 1,009 patients were being treated at the ICU with 524 of them needing ventilator support.

       He said 33 new clusters were reported with 21 linked to workplaces.

       The remaining clusters involved community and education, bringing the number of active clusters to 1,005.

       Based on the latest data on Sunday, the value of R0 (R-nought) is 1.15.

       The states that recorded the highest R0 value were Terengganu (1.36), followed by Kedah (1.26) and Sabah (1.24).

       All states recorded an R0 value of above 1.0 except for Labuan and Perlis.
