A 17-year-old male was found fatally shot Thursday evening inside a Southeast Washington apartment building, D.C. police said.

       Officers responded to the 4400 block of E Street SE for the report of a shooting about 5:15 p.m., said Cmdr. Darnel Robinson. The victim, whom police did not immediately identify, was unconscious and not breathing at the scene and was taken to a hospital. He was later pronounced dead, officials said.

       Investigators said the teen was inside the building with a woman at the time of the shooting and she was “cooperating with our investigation,” Robinson told reporters at the scene.

       No further details were released late Thursday.
