JOHOR BARU: Teenagers here are looking forward to getting vaccinated so that they can feel safe going out of their homes again.

       SMK Permas Jaya 2 student Darrl Azmi said he was now worried to even go out of the house to buy groceries.

       “Of the eight people in my house, only my two aunts, who are above 18, have been vaccinated.

       “The rest in the house are aged between six and 15. We are very careful not to go out unless for emergency or important matters.

       “I hope that I can be vaccinated before I start going to school again,” the 17-year-old said in an interview.

       Agreeing, SMK Taman Tun Aminah student N. Hirtika, 17, said only she and her siblings had yet to be vaccinated in their household.

       “My parents have been fully vaccinated. Only my siblings and I, who are all below 18, have not gotten the vaccine.

       “I hope to get it soon so that I can go out without feeling worried about my health and safety,” she said.

       Foon Yew High School Kulai student Carole Hew, 17, said she was really looking forward to going back to school as she was preparing for her SPM examination this year.

       “However, I feel it is dangerous for me to go back to the classroom without being fully vaccinated. I hope that my friends and I can get our vaccine soon,” she said.

       Last Saturday, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had said that some three million teenagers below 18 would be fully vaccinated before the start of the new school term in January 2022.
