A woman is in critical condition after a fire broke out early Saturday at an apartment building in Northwest Washington.

       D.C. Fire and EMS said they received a call at 3:48 a.m. about a fire in the 700 block of Hobart Place NW. They arrived to find flames coming from a three-story apartment building.

       Two people were rescued by firefighters. One woman and a firefighter were taken to the hospital. The firefighter had minor injuries, according to a fire department spokesperson.

       Officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
