A brand new five-storey hotel is being proposed to be built in the historic UK seaside resort of Blackpool.

       The project, which would see 266 rooms become available for holidaymakers and business people alike, promises to drive an economic revival in the town.

       The hotel will be constructed near the town's Grade II* listed Winter Gardens, a stone's throw's distance from the famous Blackpool Tower and seafront.

       Developers C1 Capital Partners and Mottram Estates were given planning permission last month for a facility with an additional 100 rooms after planning consent was given for a 160-bedroom hotel on the site between Alfred Street, Adelaide Street, and Leopold Grove.

       At present, the site is currently a car park. The hotel has the potential to transform the economy in the local area.

       According to the Blackpool Gazette, documents accompanying the application said: "The design for the new dual brand hotel endeavours to respect the existing conservation area, townscape context and the setting of the Winter Gardens.

       In January, Express.co.uk reported that poverty is higher than the national average in the town.

       Roofer Joseph Underwood, 52, told The Sun: "The poverty and conditions are simply shocking. I have a friend who lives in an area with rats and mould.

       "And you see crack and heroin being openly smoked in the streets. It's incredible. Some areas of the town are so bad. It's like Beirut."

       Unemployed Joe Morris, 36, told the publication: "I've seen kids in bare feet walking the streets. It's shocking. There is a lot of poverty here."
