The incident began just after 5 a.m., when Fairfax County police alerted state police about an allegedly stolen Ford Fiesta headed south on the Capital Beltway near the American Legion Bridge. When a county police officer tried to stop the Ford, the driver sped off at over 100 mph, and officials said police started to pursue the driver, according to a statement from Virginia State Police.

As the stolen vehicle got near the Prince William Parkway exit on Interstate 95, state troopers tried to slow it by “positioning their vehicles around it,” officials said. But the Ford hit one of the trooper’s vehicles twice, and it spun out, sparking a chain reaction as it crashed into two other trooper vehicles.

The Ford then “kept going,” state police officials said, and was eventually found in the parking lot of a restaurant on the Prince William Parkway, where authorities said they took a 19-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man into custody. They are facing charges, police said, adding that they’re looking for two more men who fled from the Ford.

State police said they are working with local police to figure out whether there is a connection with the two missing men and a silver Honda Civic that was allegedly stolen from a home on Wednesday morning.

Officials said five state troopers were taken to a hospital for minor injuries. They were treated and released.

There was another crash on the northbound side of I-95 in the Woodbridge area on Wednesday morning that involved a tractor-trailer and caused a backup that was 13 miles long at one point.
