       Women are challenging modern beauty norms by flaunting their pubic hair in a trend which has gone viral online. TikTok users have been sharing videos of themselves dressed in bikinis with their untrimmed bushes on show in a bid to buck a beauty "norm".

       One influencer shared photos of herself with and without pubic hair, commenting: "Don't allow anyone to shame you into doing something with your body hair that you aren't comfortable doing."

       But some trolls have said they would never let their pubic hair grow naturally, not even if they were paid to.

       Psychologist Carly Dobers has said the sight of a woman's pubic hair has become so taboo that if it is on show it is viewed as a radical act.

       She told news.com.au: "The cultural messaging has been 'women should not have pubic hair'. It is a normal, healthy part of the human body.

       "Pubic hair maintenance has historically been recommended by beauty outlets with keeping a sexual partner interested in mind or mimicking the look of mainstream pornographic actors."

       Social media influencers Sara Puhto and Bella Davis posted a picture of themselves in bikinis on Instagram with pubic hair poking out from their bikini bottoms.

       Ms Puhto told her 400,000 followers: "You don’t owe anyone a smooth bump-free hairless body! Don’t let your body hair or razor bumps hold you back from wearing a bikini, from being intimate or from making precious memories."

       Sexual wellness expert Rosie Rees, also quoted by news.com.au, said: "I’ve recently shared on my Instagram that I’m growing my pubic hair ‘winter coat’ – in the hope that more women and men see it sexy, normal, and healthy.

       "The hair removal industry has instigated and normalised women being hair-free since the 80s, conditioning us to believe that having pubic hair or hairy underarms insinuates that ‘you’ve let yourself go’, you’re inherently ‘dirty’ or ‘hippy’ or you’re distinctly unfeminine and deemed unattractive to men.

       "It’s important that we choose what makes us comfortable from an empowered place rather than unconsciously shaving off our pubes simply because society, the beauty industry or our partner expects or requests of us."
