KUALA LUMPUR: The police are offering help to coordinate various aid and humanitarian missions organised by many non-governmental organsations for the benefit of flood victims nationwide.
In a statement on Friday (Dec 31), Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Hazani Ghazali said the police force is ready to extend a helping hand to NGOs that do not have their own transport or have inadequate manpower to send aid to flood victims.
"For this purpose, a call centre has been set up at Bukit Aman's Control Centre, with the hotline of 03-2266 3498. Any party that wishes to convey aid, needs logistical support or manpower backup can call us for coordination," he said.
He added that callers will need to give their name and the organisation they represent, their phone numbers, the location of the intended aid as well as the target groups, the specific logistical support needed, the amount of goods to be moved, the number of assistants required as well as the type of equipment needed.
"Following our deliberation, the department will help to coordinate related arrangements to ensure all aid will be distributed to the intended recipients," said Comm Hazani.
