SEGAMAT: The Johor government is considering giving a one-off RM500 financial aid to flood victims in the state.
Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said the matter would be brought to the state government’s executive council meeting for discussion and approval on Wednesday (Jan 5).
"Along with that, we aim to discuss the suitable amount of assistance for the family of deceased flood victims.
"This is aimed to help the flood victims in Johor, on top of the cash assistance of RM1,000 for heads of households and RM10,000 for the next of kin of deceased flood victims as announced by the Federal Government recently," he said.
He earlier attended a flood briefing by government agencies with Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein at the Royal Artillery Fourth Regiment Segamat camp here on Monday (Jan 3).
Hasni thanked the Defence Ministry and the other federal and state agencies involved in the flood rescue and management of victims at six districts in Johor that were affected by floods.
Both Hasni and Hishammuddin later visited several temporary flood relief centres in Segamat to engage with flood victims and understand the situation better.
It was reported on Dec 30 that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the RM1.4bil Malaysian Family Flood Relief fund to provide aid for home and personal vehicle repairs as well as financing for affected businesses.
