Floods: Bad weather warnings issued for four states on May 4

       PETALING JAYA: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in two east coast states as well as in east Malaysia.

       The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning that were signs indicating a thunderstorm with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm/h that was close or expected to occur in excess of an hour.

       In the warning issued at 9.40am on Wednesday (May 4), MetMalaysia said the bad weather in these areas was expected to last until 1pm.

       Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai) and Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu and Marang).

       As for Sarawak, the affected areas include Betong, Sarikei, Sibu (Sibu) and Mukah, whereas in Sabah, the areas affected are Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Kinabatangan) and Kudat (Pitas).

       A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
