PETALING JAYA: Electricity supply to areas affected by floods will be restored as soon as possible once the flood waters have receded, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Prime Minister said, in a Twitter post Wednesday (Dec 22), that Tenaga Nasional Bhd had been forced to cut off the electricity supply to 350 areas in the Klang Valley due to the floods.
"In the interest of public safety, Tenaga was forced to cut the electricity to prevent short circuits due to flood waters that could also cause fires," he said.
Ismail Sabri says Tenaga had been forced to delay reconnecting the power supply to several areas as the water leves there were still too high.
He also ordered all agencies involved to be ready for any eventuality when it came to the floods.
The Prime Minister adivsed the residents of Pahang, Selangor, Ngeri Sembilan, Johor, Sabah dan Sarawak to take the necessary precautions to ensure safety following forecasts of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) had issued a warning of strong winds, heavy rains and thunderstorms at 3.20pm Wednesday for Bentong, Temerloh, Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Kuantan in Pahang; Selangor (Kuala Selangor, Gombak dan Hulu Langat); Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan dan Johor (Tangkak, Muar, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai dan Kota Tinggi).
The same warning was issued for areas in Sarawak including Sri Aman, Betong, Pakan, Julau, Meradong, Sibu, Song, Kapit, Belaga, Tatau, Sebauh dan Marudi, while in Sabah, it involves Lahad Datu dan Kinabatangan. - Bernama
