PETALING JAYA: Replacement school textbooks for those that were lost or spoilt in the floods are being sent to schools.
Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said 263,662 textbooks were spoilt as a result of the floods, affecting 14,422 students across the country, as of yesterday.
He assured the affected students that they would not have to pay for the damaged or lost textbooks.
“The ministry has sufficient stock to provide them to affected students for them to replace their lost ones to enable them to follow their learning sessions which start next week.
“The ministry will ensure the process will be done soon to enable the schooling session to run in an orderly and smooth manner,” he said on Facebook yesterday.
The third term of the 2021/2022 school session will start on Sunday for schools in Group A states while schools in Group B states will resume classes on Monday.
Group A covers Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, while Group B comprises Selangor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.
The term was initially scheduled to start on Jan 2 for schools in Group A states and Jan 3 for those in Group B states but was postponed over the country’s current flood situation.
