KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man and a woman in connection with the discovery of a foetus which was found in a petrol station toilet at Danau Kota, Setapak here.
Wangsa Maju police chief Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the man and woman are both aged 27 and were arrested in the compound of Hospital Tuanku Azizah Kuala Lumpur at around 12.15am on Wednesday (May 11).
"The woman had gone to the hospital for treatment for severe bleeding. Both suspects have been remanded for three days to help with further investigations," he said in a statement on Thursday (May 12).
He said the case was being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for hiding a birth by disposing of the body.
It was reported that the foetus was found by the public at the petrol station toilet at around 4.57pm on Tuesday (May 10).
Initial investigations found that the male foetus, estimated to be six to eight months old, had been dumped into a toilet bowl at the petrol station.
The foetus was taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital forensics unit for an autopsy and investigations are still underway into the incident.
