TOYOTA, Aichi -- Vivid red and yellow leaves of some 4,000 maple trees at Korankei gorge in this central Japan city's Asukecho district are enthralling tourists.

According to the Toyota Asuke Tourist Association, 11 species of maples including Acer palmatum and Acer amoenum grow in the area, and the autumn leaves along the Tomoe River at the foot of Mount Iimori were at their best until this past weekend. The colors of the leaves on the hillslope will deepen from now, and they can apparently be enjoyed until the end of November.

The Korankei maple festival is held until Nov. 30, and the trees are lit up between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
