Brexit LIVE: Stubborn Macron demands EU orders UK to accept hated fishing deal
2021-08-27 00:00:00.0     每日快报-政治     原网页

During a visit to Dublin on Thursday, Mr Macron insisted the EU will remain united over the fisheries agreement. Despite the deal crippling UK fishermen, the French President warned all agreements signed during Brexit negotiations must be complied with. Mr Macron said: "It is an existential issue for the solidarity and the unity of the European Union.

"So we will make sure that the agreements that are signed after very lengthy negotiations will be complied with when it comes to fisheries, or some well-known protocols."

The fisheries agreement will return 25 percent of the quota to the UK over five-and-a-half years, which is well below the level fishermen had demanded throughout negotiations.

Despite the need to renegotiate elements of the Brexit deal, including the Northern Ireland Protocol, both leaders rejected the calls from the UK.

Lord Frost released the command paper relating to the Protocol in June.

Due to the uncertainty caused by the Protocol, Lord Frost insisted urgent changes must be made.

However, Mr Martin seemingly rejected the UK's calls and warned resolutions to disagreements could only be made if there is political will in London.

As reported by The Daily Telegraph, he said: "A positive and constructive future partnership is in everyone’s interest but it will only be delivered if there is a relationship of trust, and a willingness to deliver on commitments.

“The European Union has demonstrated commitment, patience, and creativity in its work to implement the Withdrawal Agreement and the Protocol."

10.23am update: 'We’ve not left!' Britons erupt at Lord Frost and 'petrified' UK as legal warning issued

Lord Frost's competence as a Brexit minister has been challenged by Express.co.uk readers after the UK was threatened about the consequences of not being able to join the 2007 Lugano Convention.

The Convention determines which countries have jurisdiction over cross-border civil and commercial disputes, with UK lawyers warning that stopping Britain’s accession to the agreement could cause severe issues for UK and EU families with relations on both sides of the English Channel.

The EU has also been told that it will severely harm the UK’s legal system if it blocks Britain’s attempt to join the essential convention.

And now, Express.co.uk readers have lashed out at Lord Frost with one calling the UK “petrified”.

Reacting to our initial story, one Express.co.uk reader erupted: “Another year of EU rules.

“Frost begging the EU to extend the NI transition. The city still following EU regulations.

“We’ve not left. The government are petrified of actually leaving as they recognise the reality of it.

“It was all to get Boris into No10 and you guys were the useful idiots.”

9.51am update: Joe Biden accused of ‘loathing Brexit Britain’: ‘He instinctively connects it with Trump’

Joe Biden has been accused of "loathing Brexit Britain" and "instinctively connects" it with former President Donald Trump.

Mr Biden is facing enormous pressure over his handling of the withdrawal.

It was reported last week that he ignored Mr Johnson’s calls for around 36 hours as the crisis worsened.

Douglas Murray, writing in the Daily Mail last year, said Mr Biden and the Democrat high command “loathe Brexit Britain”.

He said: “They believe that the Brexit movement had something to do with the election of Donald Trump - acting as some kind of forerunner.

“They instinctively connect the two. And they also hold a contemptuous, furious and deeply anti-British attitude to everything to do with our future relationship.”

“Joe Biden and his party are no friends of this country."

9.25am update: More from the French President during his trip to Dublin

The French President also praised Ireland whom he labelled as France's nearest EU neighbour.

Mr Macron said: "We’d like to say something very simple to our Irish friends.

“From the beginning of this British referendum the EU has been united and stood in solidarity. We will remain united.”

8.40am update: Move on! 'Bitter' Remainers told to forget Brexit tension after hysterical Botham attacks

Remainer fears over the appointment of former cricket and peer Ian Botham as trade envoy to Australia have been laughed off by a Brexiteer.

The legendary cricketer was appointed to the position this week which sparked widespread criticism from hysterical Remainers.

However, those fears and criticisms have been laughed off by Marco Longhi, Tory MP for Dudley North and trade envoy for Brazil.

Mr Longhi, who was recently appointed to the position, claimed Lord Botham's stance in both the UK and Australia from the sport will benefit the country.

7.43am update: ‘Taking them for granted’ Tories not listening to Blue Wall voters, says Labour MP

A former Labour Shadow Chancellor has claimed the Tories have taken the Blue Wall ‘for granted' while Labour is standing up for voters' concerns.

Anneliese Dodds, 43, was replaced as Shadow Chancellor by Rachel Reeves in May.

Ms Dodds, now Labour Party chair, told Express.co.uk: “Many people in the southeast feel the Conservatives have been taking them for granted, and that for a while now the party hasn’t been listening to them.

“Labour has stood up for those people and made sure their voice is heard and their concerns are addressed.”

7.21am update: Macron rejects changes to fisheries deal

On a visit to Dublin on Thursday, the French President rejected any calls to change the hated fisheries agreement.

"It is an existential issue for the solidarity and the unity of the European Union.

"So we will make sure that the agreements that are signed after very lengthy negotiations will be complied with when it comes to fisheries, or some well-known protocols."

The deal will give the UK a return of 25 percent over five-and-a-half years although the UK had demanded closer to 75 percent.

Due to this, many UK fishermen have claimed they have been sold out.
