An off-duty officer with the Forest Preserve police was attacked during an attempted robbery in the Hyde Park neighborhood early Tuesday, officials said.

The 33-year-old man was attacked around 2:55 a.m. in the 5100 block of South Kimbark Avenue. The attacker was an unknown man who exited a black SUV, according to authorities with the Chicago Police Department, the agency leading the investigation.

After a physical struggle, the attacker fled the area. The off-duty officer suffered scrapes, police said, and he refused medical treatment.

No arrests have been made, officials said.
