KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster triggered by a hotel employee in Sabah's popular tourist hotspot on the foothills of Mount Kinabalu in Kundasang has recorded 40 cases so far.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said that the index case for the Jalan Kem Bina cluster involved a worker with the Perkasa Hotel in Kundasang who was tested positive during a symptomatic screening.
The close contact tracing detected another 39 people infected with the virus.
Overall, however, Masidi said Sabah new cases remain stable with 161 new cases on Monday (Jan 3), four cases fewer than the 165 reported Sunday (Jan 2).
He said the city remained with the highest number with 37 new cases, followed by Penampang, Kota Belud and Tuaran 19 cases each, Ranau (17 cases) Keningau (12 cases).
Of the remaining 27 districts, Masidi said 11 districts recorded single-digit new cases and ten remaining districts recorded no new cases.
