Prince William's new podcast ‘not on’ 20 years ago as ex-butler heralds 'modernisation'

Former butler to Prince Charles Grant Harrold appeared on GB News and celebrated Prince William's decision to speak on a new Apple podcast about his mental health and his favourite places to visit. The Duke of Cambridge will appear as a guest on the "Time to Walk" podcast where presenters discuss a place close to them with Prince William starting at Sandringham House and ending at Anmer Hall. Host Alastair Stewart remarked royals discussing these topics would not be accepted 20-years-ago as the Royal Family branches into new digital platforms.

Mr Stewart discussed the royal podcast special and wondered if it was good to see the royals discuss these types of topics.

He said: "The idea of the heir presumptive talking to a podcast and wandering around Sandringham and sharing intimate thoughts for the good of the people is simply something that would have deemed not on 20-30 years ago.

       "Is this totally a positive?"

Mr Harrold replied: "Yes, it is a positive, I've always said the Royal Family today are modernising, especially with the younger royals, you know that things are changing.

"As you quite rightly said, the Queen to date, as far as I'm aware, has not done a podcast.

"But I'm aware that Prince Charles, I don't know if you remember last year he actually was on a podcast, the Westminster Abbey podcast about a year ago.

"So obviously the Royal Family are aware that this is a modern media way of reaching people - it's modern technology.

"Of course the younger royals are embracing that, so I think these kinds of things will become more normal as technology develops, that you're going to want to be on all these kinds of platforms.

"It's not that unusual but it's quite interesting that he's been quite open about his views and his feelings because royals tend to keep things quite close to their chest."

William announced the news on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Instagram account and wrote: "Walking has been a feature of my life during the good times and the bad, come rain or shine.

"For me, it provides an opportunity to clear my mind and gain some perspective. It’s a key part of how I manage my mental health.

"It can be a very sociable exercise or a moment of complete calm and isolation.

"In the hope of inspiring a few other people to get active and take some extra time for their own mental health – I wanted to share a few of my stories and favourite songs with you in an episode of Time to Walk."

During the episode, William talks about keeping mentally fit, his experiences outside his comfort zone and his favourite songs.

The podcast will be released on Monday, December 6.

William has been on several podcasts including That Peter Crouch Podcast where he shared a curry with footballer Peter Crouch.

On the show, the future king drank a pint and discussed his love of football.
