KUALA LUMPUR: Four policemen have been arrested here for alleged extortion.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said a report was lodged on Thursday (Jan 4) with the complainant stating he had been extorted by four policemen near an apartment in Kepong.

"In the course of our investigation, we arrested four policemen aged between 29 and 41 who we believe were involved in the case," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 9).

"The Kuala Lumpur Integrity and Standards Compliance Department has also opened an investigation over the refusal to receive a police report from a member of the public.

"We view this act seriously and will take strict action against those responsible.

"The case is still being investigated and we will not protect any individuals, including our own officers, who have committed offences," he said.
