SIMPANG RENGGAM: A medical assistant officer died when the ambulance he was in collided with a trailer.

       Aidil Hamidun, 27, died at KM77 of Jalan Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam near Machap here on Tuesday night.

       Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Low Hang Seng said the ambulance was heading towards Simpang Renggam at the time.

       “The ambulance had picked up two sisters and their guardian, who were involved in an earlier road accident near SK Sri Machap, to send them to hospital,” he said.

       The crash is believed to have taken place when the ambulance hit the left back tyre of the trailer, which was making a right turn to enter a workshop in Simpang Renggam.

       “The impact caused the ambulance to turn sideways at the road shoulder,” he said yesterday.

       ACP Low said ambulance driver Othman Ghafan, 50, the two women – Nursyahira Halan, 24, and Nur Syahda Halan, 18 – and their guardian Sukiman Hasan, 59, sustained injuries while the trailer driver was unharmed.

       All four were brought to Hospital Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang for treatment.

       In an unrelated case on Tuesday, police arrested a 34-year-old man who had driven against traffic at a roundabout near Kota Iskandar.

       Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said police received a video on Monday that showed a car going against traffic at the Medini roundabout.

       “Police found the vehicle’s owner phone number and asked the person to come to the Gelang Patah police station to have his statement recorded,” he said.

       The suspect later admitted to committing the act.
