SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has launched another salvo of initiatives in its ongoing battle against Covid-19.

Among them, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said, free test kits would be provided to Selangor residents to allow them to assess their health status themselves.

“Sixty thousand free saliva test kits will be distributed throughout Selangor beginning September, to the families of those who had tested positive for Covid-19,” he said.

He added that public service centres and constituency coordination offices would be handling the programme.

Amirudin said these bodies would get the details of the families from the data compiled through public screening conducted by the state’s healthcare conduit Selcare.

He added that Selangor would also be helping families with the burial and cremation expenses of their loved ones who had succumbed to Covid-19.

He said for non-Muslims, the funds will come from the allocation set aside for temples that have yet to be disbursed.

“We can contribute up to RM1,000, and if the cost is about RM2,000 and more, we would subsidise some of it,” Amirudin told a virtual press conference yesterday.

The Mentri Besar also said that 2.09 million people who had registered to be vaccinated in Selangor had been fully inoculated.

On another matter, Amirudin said the Selangor government would bring its concerns over the reopening of schools in September to the National Security Council after it has discussed the matter at the state level.

“We will discuss the matter next week,” he added.
