Brexiteers erupted with fury after it emerged Keir Starmer discussed reintroducing free movement in talks with Spain’s prime minister.

Pedro Sanchez urged the Prime Minister to consider a deal allowing young people to move to the UK when they held private talks ten days ago.

Sir Keir rejected calls for changes in the run up to the general election but is said to have told his Spanish counterpart he would consider it.

Leading Leavers accused the Remainer PM of starting the great Brexit betrayal but said it was no surprise.

Reform MP Lee Anderson told the Express: “We voted against free movement in 2016. Starmer has no respect for democracy or our borders and in five years time our country will be unrecognisable. God help us.”

Tory leadership hopeful James Cleverly said Sir Keir was starting to unpick Brexit already.

“Labour said they wanted to bring migration down and ruled out a Youth Mobility Scheme with the EU during the election. Surprise surprise, the U-turn has started already,” he told the Telegraph.

“As we have already seen ministers advocating relaxing visa rules, this should not shock anybody. But the British people have been betrayed once again by Starmer.”

Mr Sanchez made the case for an agreement between the UK-Spain when he met Sir Keir at a summit at Blenheim Palace on July 18.

During the election, Sir Keir, who drew up plans under Jeremy Corbyn to hold a second referendum, said he wanted to reset relations with the European Union.

Within days of winning the election he confirmed he intended to start unpicking the deal struck by Boris Johnson.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy and London Mayor Sadiq Khan have long pushed for an EU-wide free movement deal with the UK for young people.

The European Commission outlined a plan in April to make it easier for the under 30s to move between the EU and UK.

Germany has also floated changing the rules for young people.

A government spokesman said: "We have been clear that we won't rejoin the single market, customs union or reintroduce freedom of movement, and we are not considering a youth mobility scheme."
