Four people were shot and one killed Sunday night in the South Shore neighborhood, police said, shortly before a separate attack left at least eight people wounded in the Marquette Park neighborhood.

       The group of five was standing outside at about 8:45 p.m. in the 2000 block of East 71st Street when someone in a black SUV drove by and fired shots before fleeing, according to police.

       A 21-year-old man shot in the arm and leg, a 20-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and a 19-year-old man shot in the leg were taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were stabilized, according to police. Another 21-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the left arm was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

       A female victim who suffered six gunshot wounds to her body was pronounced dead at University of Chicago Medical Center, police said.

       No one was in custody and Area One detectives were investigating.

       About two hours later, another attack left eight people wounded, police said, citing preliminary information. The shooting took place shortly before 11 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Artesian Avenue, police said.

       The Sunday shootings follow two weekend attacks that each resulted in four people shot.
