GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Hill funicular train broke down at 10am on Monday (Nov 8) for the second time since Sunday, says Penang Hill Corporation general manager Datuk Cheok Lay Leng
"We temporarily stopped the service and brought down the passengers and workers to the lower station. The service will only resume on Tuesday (Nov 9) morning," Cheok said.
The service was also disrupted at 1.50pm on Sunday (Nov 7) and the train had to be stopped and all passengers were brought down.
"We completed the repairs only in the wee hours of Monday morning,” said Cheok
Cheok said major maintenance of the train was disrupted during the Covid-19 pandemic as the Swiss engineers could not travel for the maintenance work.
The funicular service was also disrupted on Oct 15 after a technical glitch.
A track brake had locked after the safety mechanism detected a potential fault.
